Massachusetts is a global hub for robotics. From Boston to the Merrimack Valley, on Cape Cod and in Western Massachusetts, our leading robotics companies, growing startups, world-class academic research labs, educational institutions and policymakers work closely together to spur robotics technology, innovation and business growth.
Here in Massachusetts cutting-edge technology is turned into real-world solutions. The opportunities for robots are infinite, as they work in people’s homes, in hospitals, across numerous industries or in research. They also vary in the shapes they take, from autonomous and underwater vehicles to aerial drones and warehouse robots.
As robotics technologies evolve, systems become more interconnected and robots will become increasingly more capable and autonomous. In the future, robots will play a greater role helping support workers, boost productivity, drive innovation and increase the quality of life – with robots helping to make our world a better place.
Massachusetts is helping to create a better future with:
- 345 innovative robotics companies across Massachusetts;
- 40 world-class robotics programs, with over 60 independent research labs and 22 dedicated colleges & universities;
- Over $2.4 Billion in venture capital invested into Massachusetts robotics in 2022;
- Over $8.9 Billion in federal funding granted to MA robotics programs in 2022; and
- Strong STEM aptitude: In 2023, 68,000 10th grade students averaged an 89.1 out of 100 on statewide STEM tests.

More about the Ecosystem
The Massachusetts Robotics Industry Steering Committee is a collaborative group of industry leaders, academic experts and government innovation officials, convened by the MassTech Collaborative, with the mission of making Massachusetts the hub of the robotics’ universe. Members of the committee help inform an action agenda by analyzing and understanding the dynamics taking place within segments of the robotics industry in order to guide investments in physical and human capital necessary to grow the robotics cluster in Massachusetts.
